The Best Logging Company in Stafford County
We are a full-service logging company serving all of Stafford County. We began in 1983 and since then have harvested timber at competitive rates all throughout Northern Virginia. We’d be happy to do a full walkthrough of your timberlands with you and help you select the best, most marketable trees before we fell them. We will keep you updated each step of the way. Our mission is 100% customer satisfaction!
Our forestry techniques consider what’s best for the environment and we never strip the land. Rather, we take care to preserve the land as best we can and abide by Maryland’s Best Management Practices (BMP) in all we do. Our team offers both selective and clear-cutting depending on your, as the landowner, goals and how the ecology of the area will get the most benefit. Sometimes one technique is better than the other. To learn more, feel free to call us!
Why Sell Your Timber?
You likely already have a reason to sell your timber, but there are various benefits of doing this that you may not have considered before.
To Improve Forest Health
Timber harvesting has many benefits to forest health. How so? Some landowners want to remove older trees to promote the growth of younger trees. This contributes to a forest’s long-term benefit and improves the ecology of the land. Another reason landowners opt to sell their timber is to eliminate invasive species and/or tree disease before the entire woodlands are contaminated.
To Boost Wildlife Habitat
When a tree is felled, it leaves fallen remains called coarse woody debris (CWD), which serves as excellent food and shelter for forest critters and insects. CWD also helps the soil as the tree remains decompose into the ground. This promotes long-term plant growth!
To Help the Economy
Our industry employs thousands of people and contributes billions to the economy in direct output every year! When you sell your timber, not only does your land and ecology benefit but you’re helping the economy as well.
These are just some of the main benefits of selling your timber. Of course, every landowner has their own land management goals. What are yours? We’d love to help you achieve them! Give us a call today.
Our Logging Process
Before the chainsaws and equipment come out, we first will do a full walkthrough of your timberlands to identify your most profitable timber and give you an estimate of its overall value.
Once the area is examined for potential hazards, the trees are selected, and the escape routes are planned in case of an emergency, we fell the trees. This process involves making precise cuts at the tree base – the undercut and the back cut. Our team of experts is thoroughly trained and ensures that the fell zone is secured off from any bystanders before this process begins.
The tree is on the ground and bucking begins. This involves removing all limbs and sawing the felled tree into logs using a professional-grade chainsaw. This requires making cross-sectional cuts in the wood and elevating or supporting the tree to avoid damaging the soil underneath.
Skidding involves transporting all the cut logs to our roadside landing for loading. We attach the logs to a tractor or a forwarder and drive them along prepared skid trails to protect the forest floor. In every step of our logging process, we ensure minimal damage comes to your timberlands!
